Congratulations to Ryan Hanes on Appointment to Pickleball Canada

Pickleball Ontario congratulates Ryan Hanes on his appointment as Director of Competition with Pickleball Canada. Ryan has been a fixture in Ontario pickleball for years. Most recently, he served as Tournament Director for our 2025 Provincial Championship and captain of Team Ontario’s 50+ squad at the 2025 National Championship in Winnipeg. As owner and founder of True North Pickleball, Ryan has directed over one hundred tournaments, including two National Championships and four Regionals. He is a Pickleball Canada and USAP certified referee, a PPR Certified Teaching Professional and Clinician, and is recognized as one of Canada’s leading instructors. 2026 Pickleball Canada National Championship Coming to Ontario

Pickleplex Social Club to host national championship after successful 2025 Ontario Provincials On Monday, January 12, Pickleball Canada announced that the 2026 National Championship will take place in Ontario, August 25-30, 2026, at Pickleplex Social Club’s Downsview and Vaughan locations in the Greater Toronto Area. The deadline is approaching to recognize the volunteers who have made pickleball thrive in your community. Nominations for Pickleball Ontario’s Annual Volunteer Awards are due December 31st, with winners announced next year. Four awards celebrate different contributions to our sport: The Wayne Roswell Builder Award honors those who established programs that drove rapid growth in their region. The Community Award recognizes volunteers who inspire participation and create inclusive programs. The Merrie Lee-Ambassador Award celebrates those who’ve increased awareness and acted as liaisons between Pickleball Ontario and their communities. Marie Aubie – PO Team member- MiLP Nationals

A Bridgenorth woman is part of the first Team Ontario ever put together by fledgling Pickleball Ontario. Marie Aubie is part of a mixed five-person team competing at the MiLP Nationals (Minor League Pickleball) being held in Orange County, California on Friday through Sunday. MiLP is an innovative team competition where teams of four players (two women and two men) compete against each other over several days. It is a novel and engaging format, with twists on traditional matchups and scoring for games, matches, and tiebreakers. It encompasses gender matchups and mixed doubles. WC Eaket Secondary School – Intramural Pickleball Tournament

 With the assistance of the Blind River Pickleball Club who loaned their equipment and expertise, pickleball has been successively introduced to the youth and community.  A Regional Pickleball tournament has been proposed for May 2024 with at least 4 other high schools interested in taking part,  WC Eaket Secondary School in Blind River  has 14 players practicing 2 times a week  with more expected.  The school recently purchased enough equipment for four courts including paddles and balls.  Thanks to this equipment their students are having their first ever intramural Pickleball tournament.    Thanks to the generous financial assistance of the Blind River Rotary Club, enough equipment was purchased for a second
