Ryan Hanes hired as Director – Competitions at Pickleball Canada

Congratulations to Ryan Hanes on Appointment to Pickleball Canada

Pickleball Ontario congratulates Ryan Hanes on his appointment as Director of Competition with Pickleball Canada.

Ryan has been a fixture in Ontario pickleball for years. Most recently, he served as Tournament Director for our 2025 Provincial Championship and captain of Team Ontario’s 50+ squad at the 2025 National Championship in Winnipeg.

As owner and founder of True North Pickleball, Ryan has directed over one hundred tournaments, including two National Championships and four Regionals. He is a Pickleball Canada and USAP certified referee, a PPR Certified Teaching Professional and Clinician, and is recognized as one of Canada’s leading instructors.

Ryan is also an accomplished competitive player. His tournament success includes winning the 2022 Canadian Nationals 4.5 35+ Men’s division, the 2019 Canadian Nationals 4.5 Men’s division, and earning silver at the 2019 US Open 4.5 19+ division.

In his new role as Director of Competition, Ryan will serve as Tournament Director for the National Championship and oversee Pickleball Canada’s sanctioning program, acting as a resource for tournament operators across the country. He will provide mentorship and support to Provincial Championship organizers and play a key role in developing a high-performance program to prepare Canadian athletes for World Championship and Olympic competition. The position represents a significant step forward in professionalizing competitive pickleball infrastructure across Canada.

While we’ll miss having Ryan so closely involved in Ontario events, we’re proud to see one of our own taking on this important national role.

Congratulations, Ryan. Ontario Pickleball is cheering for you.
